Booking Through Thursday -- 4/30

Which is worse?
Finding a book you love and then hating everything else you try by that author, or
Reading a completely disappointing book by an author that you love?

Hmmmm... I would have to say finding a book you love and then hating everything else you try by that author. This has happened to me a few times. My greatest example of this is My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I loved My Sister's Keeper and was so excited to find that she had written a ton of books. So I started through them, each with the hope that they would be as good as My Sister's Keeper. Maybe my expectations were too high because I have not found another Picoult book that I truly liked. Did I hate them? No, but I did stop reading her books.

What about you? (Want to play along? Then go to Booking Through Thursday.)

I completely agree about My Sister's Keeper! The problem with her work is it's so formulaic that I think the first book you read by her stands out, then all the others just feel the same.

Hi Jess, thanks for visiting my blog! I have found that with Jodi Picoult, I have really enjoyed some of her books but some have been really disappointing. I am really enjoying Best Intentions, I'll let you know when I've finished!

Very true about Jodi Picoult. There were a couple other of her books that caught my attention and I enjoyed reading to the end, but none of them were as awesome as Sister's Keeper. And most of them were not fun to read.

I love Jodi Picoult. I started with Tenth circle, loved it, and immediately bought and read My sisters keeper. I think this book is her best so far, no wonder you are dissapointed.

Sometimes it's like an author has one moment of brilliance with a book, and then can not live up to it with following book! Great Answer!

I think I've read about six Picoult books. My Sister's Keeper is my favorite by far, but I did also really enjoy Mercy and Vanishing Acts.

My Sister's Keeper is by far the best of the six or so of her books I've read. I recently finished Change of Heart and will not be reading any others.

What matters to me is whether I'll venture into another book of a new author. It's about building the credit. I do believe in second chances. :)

I'm extra cautious about reading another if the author is not good in my book. At least I wouldn't buy it but borrow it.

To Blodeuedd: It's one-hit wonder.

Thanks for visiting! I haven't read Picoult's books but I read the Wonder Woman comic and she wrote that for a while.

I'm the same way. Once I read a book by an author and love the book, I have to get them all. So, it's very disappointing if I don't like anything after the original one that I loved.

I have read my sister's keeper....it was a great book, but even though you said her other books aren't so great...I don't feel dissapointed because I like my sister's keeper not Jodi herself.

that is why I feel more dissapointed when the author I like makes bad book

I have yet to read anything by Piccoult. None of her books truly entice me. Thanks for visiting.

sometimes i think some authors have one or two really good books, and the rest are sometimes just sorta okay. so if you read the winner right away, the rest never seem to live up. oy.

I get so excited to read a new author I enjoy because then I have a whole new catalog of things to read, so when everything else they write is terrible, it is a real let-down.
